Christmas came super early this year, we recently unwrapped two prototype 2027 Ski-Doo snowmobiles for testing. We got these sleds into the shop and up on the mountains to get a first look at where Ski-Doo technology is headed.
If you haven’t watched our latest YouTube video detailing the arrival and our initial shakedown of these sleds, you are missing out on a serious glimpse into the future of mountain riding. We took these highly classified machines straight into the heart of the British Columbia backcountry to see exactly what the next generation of snowmobiling looks, feels, and sounds like.
Testing unreleased equipment is a massive privilege and a serious responsibility. Here’s our break down on these machines. There’s cutting edge technology and a fair few crashes.
Carl has spent decades working directly with Ski-Doo engineers. He knows what a sled needs to do to survive and perform in the most challenging mountain conditions.
Our guiding team puts thousands of miles on current-model Ski-Doo sleds every single season. If anyone knows the limits of the current Gen5 platform, it’s us. Because of this deep familiarity, Ski-Doo trusts us to identify exactly where the next generation of sleds needs to improve. We are not just riding these prototypes for fun; we are acting as an extension of their research and development team.
A snowmobile might look incredible sitting on the shop floor, but the fun colours aren’t as important as how it handles in the mountains. We loaded the 2027 prototypes into the trailers and headed straight for the steep and deep stuff.
We do not treat prototype sleds gently. The BRP engineers expect us to give the sleds a real life test. If a component is going to fail, it needs to fail here with us, not two years from now with a customer.
We immediately took the prototypes into wide-open alpine bowls to see how quickly they could get on top of the snow.
We look for instant throttle response and track hookup. When you pin the throttle, the sled should immediately lift its nose and plane out over the powder. The 2027 prototypes are incredibly agile and the acceleration responds fast. The Freeride model has a 34” stance making it by far the most nimble Freeride on the market while maintaining strong stability with the upgraded suspension.
While open bowls test pure power, tight tree lines test agility. We took the prototypes down into the dense, old-growth forests that define the CKMP riding experience. The prototypes showed serious advancements in rider geometry, making it incredibly intuitive to initiate a carve and navigate through tight timber.
Riding the prototypes is only half the job. The real work begins when we get back to the lodge and sit down to analyze the data. Our relationship with Ski-Doo is built on brutal honesty.
Why should you care about the latest prototypes? This is a glimpse into the future and gives you a glimpse into the direction of sled technology.
When a sled can survive in the hands of our guides on ‘test-mode’, it can survive anything a weekend rider will throw at it. The innovations we are testing today will eventually become the standard features of tomorrow.
Lighter chassis designs mean you can ride longer without getting exhausted. More efficient power delivery means you can climb higher and explore further. Stronger suspension components mean you can hit bigger jumps with absolute confidence. The future of snowmobiling is incredibly bright, and the limits of what a rider can achieve are expanding every single year.
While you might have to wait a little to get your hands on a 2027 Ski-Doo, you do not have to wait to experience the absolute best technology currently available.
At CKMP, we constantly update our rental fleet with the newest, highest-performing mountain sleds on the market. When you book a guided tour with us, you are riding the exact same machines our professional guides use. You get to experience the pinnacle of current engineering, perfectly tuned for the deep snow of the Monashee Mountains.

The mountains are calling, and the machines are getting better every day. We cannot wait to see where the technology goes next, and we are incredibly proud to play a role in getting it there.
