Eagle Pass

17,000 Acres of Unbelievable Views

Discover BC Backcountry

British Columbia is home to some of the planet’s most legendary backcountry terrain, but few places capture the imagination quite like Eagle Pass. Located just outside Revelstoke, this sprawling 17,000 acre paradise is a snowmobiler’s dream. It offers a powerful combination of challenging terrain, deep powder, burnt trees and views that will stay with you long after the snow has melted.

At Carl Kuster Mountain Park, we spend our seasons exploring the best the mountains have to offer, and Eagle Pass is a destination that consistently delivers. It’s a place that demands respect but rewards riders with an unparalleled sense of freedom and adventure. We’ll tell you what makes this iconic area a must-ride destination for any serious backcountry sledder.

Where is Eagle Pass?

Eagle Pass is situated in the Monashee Mountains between Sicamous and Revelstoke in British Columbia.  A range renowned for its staggering annual snowfall, mild temperatures, a wide band of accessible terrain and perfectly spaced trees. The main staging area is conveniently located just west of Revelstoke, and a 10 minute drive from CKMP. This prime location puts it right in the heart of BC’s “powder highway,” a region famous for getting some of the deepest and best snow in North America.

The pass itself holds historical significance as a key route through the Monashees for the Canadian Pacific Railway. Today, it serves as a gateway to a vast network of bowls, alpine ridges, and forested trails that have made it a world-famous snowmobiling destination.

Terrain for the True Adventurer

The terrain in Eagle Pass is as varied as it is vast. It is not a place for the timid or inexperienced. The landscape is rugged, complex, and genuinely wild. Riders can expect to find steep, technical tree riding, massive open bowls, and challenging climbs that test both skill and nerve. This is true mountain riding, where your ability to read terrain and handle your sled is paramount.

The rewards for navigating this challenging environment are immense. Imagine cresting a ridge to find a pristine, untracked bowl stretching out before you, or carving through perfectly spaced old-growth forests, and the infamous “burnt tree” riding  featured in many videos. The sheer scale of the area means that even on a popular day, you can find yourself alone in nature.

Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced

To truly enjoy and safely navigate Eagle Pass, riders should have a solid foundation of backcountry skills. This is not a beginner’s zone. You should be comfortable with off-trail riding, including sidehilling, navigating deep powder, and getting yourself unstuck.

Eagle Pass captures all aspects of big mountain riding and on a clear day the views are unmatched. Navigating the vast area of Eagle Pass can be complex and challenging,  Riding with CKMP  experienced guides is the best way to explore Eagle Pass safely and unlock its full potential.

Why is Eagle Pass So Popular?

Eagle Pass has earned its reputation for a few key reasons. First, the snow is simply phenomenal. The area consistently receives massive dumps of light, dry powder, creating the deep conditions that backcountry riders dream of. Second, the variety of terrain means there is always a new challenge to be found, from technical tree lines to high-alpine bowls. Third, the “burnt tree” riding areas allow for better visibility and easier selection of riding lines. Finally, the views are breathtaking. The panoramic vistas of the surrounding Monashee and Selkirk Mountains are a huge part of the appeal. It’s a place where the raw beauty of the Canadian wilderness is on full display, making every ride an unforgettable experience.

When to Ride Eagle Pass

The prime sledding season in Eagle Pass typically runs from December through April. Early in the season, you’ll find a deep and developing snowpack, while late spring offers more stable conditions and longer days for exploring the high alpine. January and February are often considered the sweet spot, with frequent storms delivering fresh powder.

Eagle Pass represents the pinnacle of backcountry snowmobiling. It’s a place that challenges your skills, ignites your sense of adventure, and rewards you with some of the best riding in the world.
